The maritime world has always inspired the artists of the Meissen porcelain manufactory. Animal sculptures have also been part of the versatile repertoire of the Meissen manufactory since the very beginning. In the 20th century, animal sculpture experienced a renaissance in Meissen porcelain. Renowned sculptors from the Art Nouveau period were particularly honored and inspired to design exclusive animal figurines for Europe's oldest porcelain manufactory and to grapple with a great tradition. Also the artist Elfriede Reichel-Drechsler, who in 1959 designed the 28 cm high sculpture "fish" in white Meissen porcelain. An impressive work that also fits very well into the maritime world of the "MEISSEN Blue Treasures" service.
