A bountiful array of roses, tulips, iris, plume poppies, bear's ear and other flowers of spring and summer shine out at us from this masterpiece on porcelain, a slightly modified version of a work by the great Dutch flower-and-fruit painter Jan Frans van Dael (1774-1840). Picture painting is one of the highest arts practised at the Manufactory, one that none but a very few staff with long experience and exceeding aptitude are versed in. The replica painting reflects to perfection van Dael's inimitable penchant for rendering flowers in a particularly naturalistic, faithfully detailed manner. The colours are painted and scumbled onto the glazed porcelain in several layers and fired several times. Our porcelain painter most ably manifests his great talent, craft skills and mastery of the colour palette in the process. The Dutchman van Dael's clients included Napoleon Bonaparte and Charles the Fifth. His pictures can now be admired in the Hermitage Museum at St. Petersburg, the Lyon Museum or the Louvre. The copy of "Still life with vase of flowers" with its sumptuous gilt-tooled frame is an exquisite counterpart whose splendour can be enjoyed anew in private and every day. Its flowers will never wither and, unlike the original, this choice work of art will never fade or lose its sheen.
