All new, all "Nova"
#NEWCHAPTER
  • The history of MEISSEN, the oldest porcelain manufactory in Europe, has been written. Preserved, archived and stored in the numerous records of our company archive, in the rich collection of our porcelain museum, in the thousands and thousands of plaster molds in our mold archive and even in every single stone and every creaking hardwood floorboard in our manufactory building. And so the story now stands - beginning with the discovery of the first European hard porcelain by Böttger and Tschirnhaus in 1708 and the founding of the "Königlich-Polnische und Kurfürstlich-Sächsische Porzellan-Manufaktur" ("Royal Polish and Electoral Saxon Porcelain Manufactory") by Augustus the Strong in 1710 right up to the present day. The time has come to continue writing the history of MEISSEN and to add something new - time for "Nova".

"Nova" - Latin for "new" - is the new, unusual design language for the table, whose unique sophistication becomes clear at first glance:You will look in vain for classic, circular plates here. And that's how it should be. Product designer Zhuoyu Hou began the development with a multitude of visions. Her new collection was to be a departure from traditional ideas. The familiar arrangement of mirror (recessed plate) and flag (pronounced rim of the plate) was to be completely different from anything that had gone before. The design was to reflect the zeitgeist of our era and be in clear interplay with functionality.

The result is a sophisticated interplay of round and angular, circle and square. The key idea combines the old with the new. Ancient Chinese coins from 2,000 years ago, which were circular on the outside and had a square hole with a practical background in the middle, provided the impetus to play with shapes. In doing so, Zhuoyu Hou was able to capture the design essence of modern technical devices such as smartphones or tablets and, in line with her vision, depict the spirit of the current era.
"Every new chapter in history and in life is like a fresh canvas waiting to be painted with a unique story."
  • And now "Nova" has arrived and lets the white gold shine in new splendor. A fascinating fusion of angular and round, in which the angular lines dance elegantly with the gentle curves. Whether clear and purist, all in white in the "Nova Pur" collection or with artistic floral splendor in the "Nova Passion Flower" collection, the design language impresses with its uniqueness, modernity and innovation.

The modular principle on which the entire range is based is a particular highlight. All elements, whether "Nova Pur" dinner plate, "Nova Pur" coffee cup or "Nova Pur" vase, are in a specific geometric relationship to each other and can therefore be combined to create harmonious patterns. Thanks to the consistent use of clear lines and rounded corners, there are countless possible combinations for visually harmonious table compositions. And "Nova" also cuts a fine figure when it comes to mix & match. Why not try combining the extraordinary gourmet plates from the Swan service with "Nova"?

The creative depiction of the current zeitgeist within the "Nova" design language has also inspired us to create another new product that fits in with the lifestyle of the 21st century: The coffee to go mugs made of genuine Meissen porcelain - with iconic decors from our manufactory history. So now you can take MEISSEN with you wherever you go and enhance your everyday adventures with table & tableware for on the go - and above all with style.

We are delighted to begin this new chapter of MEISSEN with you and to continue writing our 310-year history full of passion, craftsmanship and the most beautiful and precious material of all time.
