Chinese mythology is rich in symbols that have stood for good fortune, prosperity, and harmony for thousands of years. Among its most significant creatures is the dragon, which is revered in China as a symbol of strength, wisdom, success, and imperial dignity. Unlike in the European tradition, the dragon is regarded as a bringer of good fortune, a protective guardian, and a mediator between heaven and earth.

For the design of this extraordinary vase, Meissen artist Zhuoyu Hou drew inspiration from traditional Chinese coins. Their distinctive shape-round on the outside and square on the inside-symbolizes the unity of heaven and earth. Rising from a faceted foot, the vase develops into a powerfully tensioned body and culminates in a soft, rounded opening. This organic formal language is a characteristic feature of the artist's work, combining Far Eastern symbolism with contemporary design.

Against the deep black porcelain ground, an impressive decoration of three golden lucky dragons unfolds, surrounded by stylized clouds. With their dynamic movements, the mythical creatures appear to glide across the surface of the vase, their gaze fixed on the legendary flaming pearl-a traditional symbol of wisdom, energy, and spiritual perfection.

The artful execution unites Chinese visual traditions with the technical mastery of Meissen porcelain painting. The dragons were painted by hand using various gold preparations, giving them extraordinary depth and radiance. The luminous blue clouds are created in elaborate Limoges painting, a technique in which the color is applied in multiple layers, forming a fascinating contrast with the black ground.
