Single Figurine Bird Flycatcher

The spotted flycatcher is a small songbird that catches insects in flight. This figure captures that very moment: the 13 cm tall bird sits alertly on a branch, its head turned slightly, as if it has spotted its prey. Fine feather detail, delicate painting in muted brown tones, and the pale plumage on the breast make the bird instantly recognizable.

The figure belongs to the tradition of Meissen bird models created at the porcelain manufactory in the 18th century. The sculptors modeled the birds with great naturalism, often based on zoological references and copperplate engravings. Each piece was hand-formed, fired, and painted, so every figure is unique, with slight variations in color and execution.

Today, this bird figure shows how porcelain can do more than depict nature: it can bring it to life in a small, precious object.
