The "Hunting Scenes" tea caddy was created around 1720/25 based on a design by the Dutch painter Philips Wouwerman. Wild animals and birds, hand-painted in vibrant colors, represent the peaceful idyll of the forest and show themselves in their natural habitat. The filigree gold decorations set the painting of the artwork impressively and exclusively in scene. In the 1730s, hunting paintings developed into a particularly popular form of scenic, figurative decoration. This dreamlike tea caddy also features depictions of a hunt.
