Limited Edition Wavy Bowl with Koi Pond

With "The Wave", Konrad Hentschel created one of the most poetic and innovative works of Meissen porcelain art at the end of the nineteenth century. Leaning gracefully over the rim of a shell-shaped bowl, the young female figure gazes attentively into the water below. Movement, curiosity, and the observation of nature merge into a scene of remarkable vitality and charm.
This particular interpretation offers a unique contemporary perspective on the historic model. Rather than depicting the open sea or an abstract body of water, the bowl is transformed into a tranquil koi pond. Delicately painted koi glide through softly shimmering water, adding a new narrative dimension to the composition. Subtle brushwork creates the impression of reflected light and gentle movement, bringing the pond to life and directing the viewer's attention to the silent encounter between the figure and the fish.
Koi carp hold profound symbolic meaning throughout Asia. They are widely regarded as symbols of good fortune, prosperity, perseverance, courage, and success. Because of their ability to swim against strong currents, koi are often associated with determination, resilience, and the strength to overcome challenges.
In this contemporary decoration, two cultural traditions meet: the refined sculptural artistry of European Art Nouveau and the rich symbolism of East Asia. "
