Exclusive Collection Crater Vase World of Meissen Patterns

On this Crater Vase, first presented in 2018, a new world of decoration unfolds - where artistic curiosity and masterful craftsmanship merge. The form is based on a 19th-century design by Ernst August Leuteritz and takes inspiration from the Attic calyx krater of the 6th century BC - an ancient vessel once used for mixing wine and water. The vase already caused a sensation at the 1862 World Exhibition in London.

Behind its elegance lies a process of extraordinary craftsmanship. Before production can begin, the porcelain mass must rest for several months to reach its perfect consistency. The body is still traditionally turned by hand - a task requiring 4 skilled artisans working in harmony. The handles, each composed of 20 individual parts, is later attached by hand with utmost precision.

The decoration is no less impressive: 27 painters collaborated to adorn the vase with over 100 distinct motifs across 232 panels. The result is a panoramic journey through three centuries of MEISSEN design - from Höroldt's chinoiseries and Watteau-inspired scenes to the Ming Dragon, the world-famous Onion Pattern, and richly varied floral styles. Birds, fruits, and blossoms appear in striking naturalism, while playful depictions such as One Thousand and One Nights bring a touch of fantasy.
