¿Die Vögel hocken still in ihren Zweigen./Die Welt schläft ein!¿, heißt es in Gustav Mahlers Lied von der Erde, jener traumhaften Komposition aus europäischer Musik und chinesischer Poesie. Unsere fernöstlichen Vogeldekore scheinen durch die bildhaften Verse inspiriert, und auch sie tragen zu einer Symbiose zweier Welthälften bei: auf Porzellan. Die Vögel zieren eine Achteckschale nach ostasiatischem Vorbild (etwa 1700) ¿ und eine Viereckvase von Paul Scheurich (1937). Schönheit plus Schönheit, egal woher und von wann, ergibt immer neue Schönheit.
