The 18 cm high, hand-painted goblet "Exotic Animals" is part of the "Northumberland Service", one of the most splendid and pictorial in the history of the manufactory - originally conceived as a gift for Sir Charles Hanbury Williams. Each artwork of the 129 limited-edition pieces features a distinct animal, hand-painted on porcelain based on historical engravings or woodcuts - like the artwork of a rhinoceros by Albrecht Dürer from 1515, which inspired the painting on this goblet. Genuine gold borders along the base and lid seam, as well as overlays on the lid and pommel, frame the painting in prestigious splendor. For this limited edition reissue of this historic decoration, the painting is effectively staged on the expansive white surface of goblet and bowl forms from the first half of the 18th century. Every single, hand-painted decorated part of the "Northumberland Service" already inspired representatives of royal houses. Thus, this goblet is also a true work of art and limited availability in the highest Meissen quality.
