For the "Limited Edition 2019" collection, MEISSEN honours the 300th anniversary of the death of Johann Friedrich Böttger - inventor of the first European porcelain - with a 1954 gourd-shaped vase designed by Willi Münch-Khe reissued in "Böttger stoneware". The historic material is the first and - for years - only material used by the Meissen manufactory. In line with the style of the early creative period of the manufactory, the vase has been embellished with golden accents that highlight the sculptural details such as the decorative insects and curved engravings. The particular challenge in gold painting lies in the fact that the medium does not allow for any lighter or darker shading. Subsequent engraving is also ruled out as this would damage the delicate stoneware's porous surface.
