Benno the rabbit comes to us in a charming, stylised form – an unabashed departure from the long tradition of naturalistic animal depictions at MEISSEN. Individually crafted, the figure then travels to the manufactory's painting workshops where its artwork is painted on by hand in muted pastel tones. Fine brushstrokes are used to highlight characteristic expressions – a partial colouring that is juxtaposed with the vibrant white of the Meissen porcelain. Carefree, depicted as if he were nosing a trail, the sculpture captures a moment of fascinating liveliness in porcelain. This pose perfectly conveys the rabbit's innocent charm.
