The figurine "3 Monkeys" by Maria Walther is 41 cm tall and shows three different monkeys. The expressive interpretation of the old Japanese proverb is particularly impressive, since it requires the utmost craftsmanship and abstraction as there is no naturalistic model. The brilliantly white porcelain underlines the special dynamics of the monkeys, which help each other to look over the bad. Animal sculptures have a long tradition at the porcelain manufactory Meissen, August the Strong already commissioned some. In the 20th century they underwent a renaissance and even today, artists have a special honor in dealing with this long tradition. As a reinterpretation of an old tradition, the "3 Monkeys" are an excellent Christmas present.
