The true-to-life, 6cm large Meissen porcelain figurine shows a "Penguin Mother with Child", who seeks protection from the cold. She is part of a group of figurines that also includes the father. The colour and form of the figurine closely correlates to its real-life counterpart and thus captures its individual characteristics. The single figurine receives its own innate liveliness in the skilled hands of Meissen's artisans. They are part of the long tradition of the Meissen animal sculptures, which were already created by Johann Joachim Kaendler for August the Strong. Her motifs range from native fauna to exotic jungle dwellers all the way to these survival artists of the Antarctic. The "penguin mother with child" therefore is a wintry Christmas present with a long tradition.
