The colorful wall panel "Four Seasons - Summer" was created by Chinese artist Zhuoyu Hou and is limited to just 15 pieces. In her work for the MEISSEN porcelain manufactory, she often draws on the cultural roots of her homeland. In Chinese culture, the seasons are more than natural phenomena - they embody eternal transformation and the cycle of birth and transience. This recurring order, deeply rooted in philosophy, poetry, and art, also shapes the visual language of this wall piece.
At the center of the summer scene stand two cranes. In traditional Chinese symbolism, summer represents abundance and vitality - radiant, vibrant, and blessed by the heavens. The days are filled with the fragrance of lotus blossoms, while the sun shines high in the sky. A warm summer rain brings refreshing energy to nature, as the pair of cranes dip their beaks and feet into the cooling water, where a small frog also frolics.
The painterly execution combines softly flowing underglaze colors with finely detailed overglaze painting. Alongside the luminous yellows and blues and the delicate pink of the lotus blossoms, individual plants are highlighted with subtle gold painting, adding an extra brilliance to the composition.
The "Four Seasons" series can be completed with the additional wall panels - Spring, Autumn, and Winter. Together they form a harmonious cycle of the year, with contributions also by Meissen artist Ramona Grzesik.
