description
Limited to only 10 pieces and standing at an impressive height of 52 cm, the MEISSEN Orangerie Planter "Magnificent Peacocks and Noble Pheasants" unites masterful craftsmanship with a homage to the splendid garden culture of centuries past.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, orangeries were an integral feature of nearly every princely park and garden. They served not only to nurture delicate plants such as citrus trees but also as a visible symbol of wealth, sophistication, and an appreciation for beauty. This heritage lives on today in the artfully designed Orangerie planters of MEISSEN.

As early as the 1920s and 1930s, the MEISSEN manufactory produced large planters decorated with expansive landscape scenes in cobalt-blue underglaze. In today's new edition, the planter reveals itself in a richly colorful décor: a pair of magnificent peacocks and three different species of pheasants unfurl their iridescent plumage across the vessel's grand surface. A magnolia tree with tulip-shaped blossoms connects the birds into a harmonious composition. Finely detailed butterflies add a touch of lightness. The border, in radiant turquoise, is hand-stippled and adorned with golden peacock feathers - a brilliant flourish of utmost elegance.

The painting is by Katharina Sohr, who employs a special painting frame and turntable to execute such a large format with precision.

The creation of a vessel of this scale and weight presents a particular challenge for every craft within the MEISSEN manufactory. No fewer than three firings are required to permanently set the colors and the porcelain body - preserving the artwork for generations to come.
