description
In graceful elegance, Leda, the beautiful Queen of Sparta, sits upon a tree trunk. Beside her, the swan to whom she tenderly places a lavish garland of flowers - a symbol of deep affection. On the other side, a cheerful putto observes the scene with childlike delight, lending the ensemble a playful lightness.

What Leda does not yet realize in this moment: the swan is none other than Zeus himself. The father of the gods had assumed the form of the bird to approach Leda, the wife of King Tyndareus of Sparta. From this mythical encounter, legend tells, was born Helen - later known as "the Beautiful" - whose fate ultimately ignited the Trojan War.

The figure "Leda with Swan" ranks among the masterpieces of Meissen's master modeler Johann Joachim Kaendler. With a fine sensitivity for mythological themes and the rich formal language of the Rococo, he created scenes of grace, sensuality, and playful elegance. For the aristocracy of the 18th century, such representations mirrored their taste for amusement - lighthearted mythological figures adorning the opulent halls and banqueting tables of their palaces.

In this new edition, the MEISSEN figure "Leda with Swan and Putto" is presented in refined decoration: delicate gold and platinum accents highlight selected details, polished or shimmering in places to add subtle emphasis. The painting by Ramona Kestel enhances the elegance of the scene while preserving its cheerful charm.

The creation of such a complex group of figures involves many meticulous steps: each component is first cast in separate molds and refined by hand. The assembler then joins all elements with great precision, reworking the transitions and thus giving the composition its harmonious unity.
