Limited Masterworks Clock Future

In this magnificent grandfather clock, the Meissen modeler Paul Helmig was able to harmoniously combine functionality and form in a work of art in the typical manner of the turn of the century. Organic sweeps of form and muted pastel tones in the hand-painted decoration capture the spirit of that era. The figure with the veiled face stands for the unknown future. The figure-like drapery around the body was painted similar to that of the ball player and the hoop thrower, two well-known figures in the history of the manufactory. The two small putti on the clock base leave room for different interpretations: They can symbolize day and night. Or they can symbolize the different ways people deal with their future: some wait patiently, others can hardly wait.
