Around 1735, the unusual vessel with spiral handles and high lid was originally created for a splendid courtly table - as an ice pot to keep food fresh. In the tradition of drawings by Maria Sybilla Merian (1647-1717), the decoration of this limited edition testimony to the finest craftsmanship of porcelain painter Michael Andreas. A master of this painting, Andreas' decorations are distinguished by particularly fine brushstrokes and details, as in the delicate hand-painted wings of the stag beetle.
Of course, nowadays the vessel can also be used to store a wide variety of things. In any case, it is an exceptionally beautiful testimony to MEISSEN craftsmanship.
