Limited Masterworks "The Good News" Cup

In the early years of MEISSEN porcelain, it was not sculptors and modellers who first shaped this precious new material, but pewterers and silversmiths. Under the direction of the court silversmith Johann Jacob Irminger (1635-1724), exquisite vessels were created whose forms were deeply inspired by the goldsmithing and silversmithing traditions of the early eighteenth century. This goblet is based on an original form dating from around 1720. With its elegantly flared body, intricate openwork ornamentation, and harmonious proportions, it bears the unmistakable signature of those early Meissen masterpieces and stands as a jewel of the manufactory's formative years. For this contemporary interpretation, David Torres has adorned the historic form with a poetic and imaginative narrative. At its center, a sloth floats serenely upon a cloud above the word "MEISSEN." Surrounded by hot-air balloons, it embarks on a fantastical journey through the sky. Like messengers of joy and optimism, the balloons carry their cheerful message across the world. Combining humor, imagination, and exceptional porcelain painting, the composition transforms the sloth into a symbol of serenity and contentment, while the drifting balloons evoke freedom, hope, and the power of dreams. This remarkable work unites more than three centuries of Meissen craftsmanship with a contemporary artistic vision, inviting us to pause, dream, and view the world with a sense of wonder and lightheartedness. with a sense of wonder and lightheartedness.
