description
The Swan Fountain is a masterpiece of Meissen porcelain art, reviving the baroque splendor of the 18th century. Limited to just 25 pieces and exquisitely hand-painted by Antje Funke, it exemplifies the union of artistry and timeless elegance.
The famous Meissen Swan Service has been regarded since its creation in the 18th century as the very embodiment of baroque refinement. Like a quiet melody, it runs through the history of the manufactory - a work that unites a sense of form, closeness to nature, and consummate craftsmanship. For subsequent generations of Meissen artists, it has always been more than a legacy: an inner compass that continues to inspire and uplift.
The Swan Fountain originally dates back to 1758, although the name of its creator is unknown. Its sculptural richness and lavish decoration are closely aligned with the Swan Service. Here, natural observation and marine mythology merge into a baroque underwater world that brings Meissen porcelain to life.
On a wide-open shell, amidst reeds and waves, three putti emerge. At their center rises the eponymous fountain, while at their feet three splendid dolphins play. At the heart of the ensemble are three elegantly posed swans, facing one another - just as in the Swan Service.
The creation of such an extensive figurative group in fine Meissen porcelain demands the highest precision and countless steps of craftsmanship. Every single detail is individually shaped, refined, and assembled by hand. Multiple firings are required to permanently secure the complex composition and preserve the luminous brilliance of the painting. Only through this elaborate interplay of modeling, hand-finishing, painting, and firing can a work of such perfection come into being.
