Limited Masterworks Cockatoo with Bowl

In 2026, the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Paul Walther (1876- 1933), one of the most distinguished sculptors and prolific modelers in its history. A member of the Dresden Artists' Group of 1913, Walther created nearly 200 models during his time at MEISSEN. His animal sculptures, in particular, continue to captivate audiences through their keen observation of nature, elegant formal language, and remarkable vitality. To mark this anniversary, the manufactory is reissuing the "Cockatoo with Bowl", originally designed in 1906. The figure was created during a period in which animal sculpture experienced a remarkable flourishing. Artists such as Georg Pilz, Otto Jarl, and Paul Walther produced masterpieces of naturalistic animal sculpture for the manufactory that remain among the finest achievements of European porcelain art.

The Cockatoo is a striking example of Walther's exceptional ability to capture the character of an animal through a few precisely modeled forms. Its attentively inclined posture, finely rendered plumage, and vivid expression lend the figure a remarkable sense of presence. At the same time, the integrated bowl transforms the sculpture into an object that is both decorative and functional. This edition has been enhanced with a subtle contemporary decoration that gently accentuates the refined modeling while preserving the spirit of the historic design. Standing approximately 49 centimeters tall, the Cockatoo with Bowl ranks among the most impressive animal sculptures of its era and continues to make a striking statement in contemporary interiors.

Both a work of art and a functional object, the figure invites its owner to make it part of everyday life. Whether filled with fruit, flowers, treasured keepsakes-or left entirely empty-the bowl offers endless possibilities for personal interpretation.
