Limited Masterworks Wall picture Water Lilies

The depiction of native flora in all its beauty and diversity has been one of the most popular themes in porcelain painting since the earliest days of the MEISSEN porcelain manufactory. To this day, naturalistic representations of plants testify to the exceptional powers of observation and outstanding craftsmanship of MEISSEN artists.

Among aquatic plants, the water lily holds a special place. With its large leaves and magnificent blossoms, it transforms lakes and ponds into impressive floral landscapes during the summer months. Celebrated as the queen of aquatic plants, it has fascinated generations of porcelain painters and has been interpreted in a wide variety of decorative styles over the centuries. The wall plaque presents a harmonious composition of blossoms, leaves and expanses of water in delicate shades of rose and green, complemented by deep nuances of blue. Using a special glaze-painting technique, porcelain painter Heike Wuttke created a fascinating interplay of matt and glossy areas. The resulting sense of depth captures the tranquil atmosphere of a water-lily pond with remarkable intensity. Particularly striking are the finely rendered droplets of water on the leaves and blossoms. Astonishingly lifelike, they appear to glide across the surface and could roll from the leaves at any moment. This illusionistic effect demonstrates exceptional painterly virtuosity and lends the motif remarkable vitality.

The picture is framed by a characteristic stepped frame made of porcelain. Its clearly structured, architectural form directs the viewer's gaze towards the central motif while giving the wall plaque additional depth and presence.
