description
Created to mark the 30th anniversary of the Waves tableware collection, this wall plaque pays tribute to one of the most poetic and innovative design concepts ever developed by the MEISSEN manufactory. On the threshold of the new millennium, MEISSEN surprised porcelain enthusiasts around the world with Wellenspiel, a tableware collection created by MEISSEN designer Sabine Wachs (*1960). Developed over three years of artistic exploration, the collection embodied the meaning of its name: classical elements of MEISSEN design are seamlessly united with a modern, flowing formal language. Soft, wave-like contours gently embrace each porcelain piece, while delicate relief textures evoke the rippling surface of a lake stirred by the wind. This graceful interplay of lines was inspired by a morning fishing excursion of MEISSEN sculptor Jörg Danielczyk (*1952).
This wall plaque artistically interprets the collection's distinctive design language. The delicate relief along the lower edge echoes the movement of waves, reflecting the dynamic elegance of the Waves form. Within this flowing composition unfolds a naturalistic scene of flowering plants, grasses, and playful squirrels, celebrating the beauty of nature with remarkable lightness and vitality.
With a refined sense of composition, movement, and detail, the work combines the traditional art of MEISSEN porcelain painting with a contemporary artistic expression. Inspired by the Forest Flora décor, Steffi Wobeda created this captivating composition. The wall plaque serves both as a tribute to the Wellenspiel tableware collection and as a symbol of the close relationship between nature, form, and porcelain artistry that has long defined the MEISSEN manufactory.
