description
Limited to just 15 pieces, the MEISSEN sculpture "Dragon on Cloud" unites masterful artistry with the fascinating symbolism of Chinese mythology. Since around 1910, the Ming Dragon has been among Meissen's most storied and iconic designs. In Chinese culture, it is regarded as the supreme mythical creature - a symbol of power, wisdom, and harmony. Most closely associated with the Chinese Emperor, the dragon stood as the divine emblem of his unique role as the "Son of Heaven."

More than a century after its introduction, the dragon has lost none of its allure. Now, for the first time, Maximilian Hagstotz has interpreted it as a full three-dimensional sculpture. Emerging from a cloud, it points to its divine origin and connection to the heavens. In its claw, it holds the dragon pearl, a symbol of perfection and universal harmony.

Here, the MEISSEN dragon appears as a celestial messenger, ruler of wind and rain, intrinsically linked to the clouds - those mythical elements of transition between the earthly and the spiritual world. Particularly noteworthy is its depiction with five claws: a feature reserved exclusively for the Emperor, signifying imperial power, authority, and the claim to world order.

Painted in classic red tones - the Emperor's color - the porcelain figure was given its majestic radiance by the hand of Anett Günther. The fine execution highlights the symbolic strength of the dragon, transforming it into a sculpture of exceptional significance.

The "Dragon on Cloud" is a unique MEISSEN artwork that unites myth, power, and masterful craftsmanship - a rare collector's piece of lasting brilliance.
