description
Pinocchio - Gazing at the Stars marks the beginning of David Torres's three-part artistic narrative exploring the relationship between artificial and human intelligence. Drawing on Carlo Collodi's famous character, Torres develops a contemporary reinterpretation: Pinocchio appears as a humanoid robot - a being suspended between artificial construction and the desire to be alive. He becomes a symbol of artificial intelligence in search of identity, consciousness and the capacity to feel. In a calm, contemplative pose, the figure gazes into the distance. It is a moment of self-questioning and hope.
The search for orientation, knowledge and belonging becomes the central theme of this first figure in the series. The base also forms part of the narrative. Its shape was inspired by stalactites, while its crater-like upper surface recalls the moon or a distant planet. This opens up another level of interpretation: perhaps Pinocchio is not looking at the stars from Earth, but is himself standing on an unfamiliar celestial body and gazing from there into the vastness of the universe. The figure therefore poses a question that is both simple and profound: Is what we seek truly to be found in the distance? Or are hope, identity and consciousness already present where we stand - perhaps even within ourselves?
In this way, Pinocchio's gaze becomes a reflection on human existence in the age of artificial intelligence. Pinocchio - Gazing at the Stars thus unites artistic vision, philosophical depth and MEISSEN's centuries-old tradition of porcelain craftsmanship.
