Gracefully seated on her shell-shaped rocaille base, the figure is Urania, the Celestial, the Muse of Astronomy. A limited edition masterpiece by the modeling genius Johann Joachim Kaendler from 1748, the sculpture embodies the spirit and aesthetics of the form-loving and exuberant Rococo in the highest artistic expression. A work of art en miniature is the filigree decoration of the celestial sphere. With filigree brushstrokes, the painter, Tabea Pfeifer, hand-painted the colorful depiction of the zodiac signs on a blue gossamer night sky.
The hand-painted details on the clasp of the cape or the base of the figure emphasize the wonderful appearance.
