The "Birth of Venus" pitcher - first introduced in 1878 at the Exposition Universelle in Paris - is a stunning example of Meissen's Neoclassical period that has been reissued for the "Limited Masterworks 2019" collection. The artwork, which is inspired by Italian paintings of the 15th and 16th centuries, is applied to a Roman-inspired Renaissance pitcher and depicts nude mythological figures in dynamic poses - a showcase of exceptional anatomical knowledge. The pastel colour gradients on the neck and foot of the pitcher require precise blending in order to create a harmonious, smooth transition. At the same time, shell designs on the base must be left blank, as the colourful background cannot be painted over in white. Very few individual pieces require such a wide range of painting techniques that, when taken together, can only be mastered by the most skilled porcelain artisans.
