The full glory of spring unfolds in an almost palpable way in this bouquet of tulips, anemones and apple blossom. Artist Heike Wuttke makes great use of contrast in placing bold tulips in the colours of the rising sun amidst delicate pink apple blossom and blueish-violet anemones. Her overglaze painting technique causes the blossom to stand out colourfully against its pale-blue background, whose soft frosty tones recall the winter just passed. The sun has finally managed to drive Jack Frost away and take his place but is now in danger of being outshone by flowers as it goads bumble bees and butterflies into making their first forays. The subject-matter echoes the beginnings of "European Flower Painting", which superseded "Indian" flower patterns based on oriental sources in around 1735 at MEISSEN®. Images from the fascinating world of insects populated a great many floral designs, reflecting the burgeoning interest shown by naturists in moths, bugs etc. at the time. With its vibrant modern interpretations of naturalistic motifs, MEISSEN® is upholding tradition whilst enchanting porcelain and flower lovers in equal measure.
