"The "Rose Dream" vase combines the great tradition of MEISSEN flower painting with a contemporary artistic interpretation and is also a tribute to the rose as a symbol of beauty, love and perfection. The roses depicted are rooted in the tradition of so-called Braunsdorf flower painting.
Around 1870, the porcelain painter Julius Eduard Braunsdorf (1841-1922) established a naturalistic style at MEISSEN distinguished by exceptional vitality. Through finely graduated colours, the sophisticated interplay of light and shadow, and the spatial differentiation of individual parts of the blossoms, he gave his compositions an impressive sense of depth. His works are still regarded as a pinnacle of naturalistic porcelain painting. The vase continues this important tradition in an innovative way. While the blue floral compositions reflect the elegance and depth of traditional MEISSEN blue painting, selected roses also appear in their natural colours. This lends the decoration exceptional vitality and poetic expressiveness. This technically demanding combination of two painting techniques was executed for the first time by MEISSEN porcelain painter Michaela Hummitzsch.
Her design is both a tribute to the manufactory's historic flower painting and a contemporary reinterpretation of one of the most significant motifs in European porcelain art.
