Limited Masterworks Lynx in a tree

In 2026, the MEISSEN Porcelain Manufactory celebrates the 150th birthday of one of its most important modellers, Paul Walther. A member of the Dresden Artists' Group 1913 and one of the manufactory's most prolific sculptors, he created almost 200 models, including numerous animal figures of outstanding artistic quality.

The figure "Lynx on a Tree" was created in 1912 and is one of the most impressive examples of his ability to bring nature to life in porcelain. The lynx is shown not as a hunter in dramatic motion, but in a rare moment of concentrated calm. Resting on a tree trunk, it attentively surveys its surroundings. The outstretched forelegs and relaxed posture convey complete naturalness, while the pointed ears, alert gaze and tense muscles reveal the constant vigilance of the predator. It is precisely this balance between calm and alertness that gives the figure its special expressive power. With great sensitivity, Walther captures not only the animal's outward appearance, but also the independent and mysterious character of the lynx. The organically modelled tree trunk forms a natural extension of the animal and reinforces the impression of a scene observed by chance in nature. The fine painting precisely renders the markings of the fur, subtle shading and the lynx's distinctive features. Sculptural form and painterly refinement combine to create exceptional authenticity.
