Limited Masterworks Vase with Lid, Secret Garden

The depiction of the exotic nature of distant lands has a long tradition at the manufactory. While the famous "Chinoiseries" reflected the European imagination of everyday life in Asia, "Indian" flower painting was devoted to the flora and fauna of East Asia. Through these elaborate Meissen decorations, viewers were invited to explore fascinating and unfamiliar worlds.

In "Secret Garden", designer Lena Hensel offers a glimpse into a symbolic fantasy world, combining enchanted gardens with the mythical creatures found in the early paintings inspired by Adam Friedrich von Löwenfinck (1714-1754). Reimagined in a contemporary decorative language, the indigo-blue fantasy animals are drawn with fine pen-like precision. Together with the airy style of the floral painting, they create a harmonious composition in which animals and foliage are given equal importance.

The expansive surface of the vase serves as a stage upon which Meissen's flower painters bring this enchanted garden to life. Only after the first firing of the floral decoration are the animal motifs added in a subsequent painting process.

The exceptional scale of this vase presented a challenge not only for the porcelain painters but also for the craftsmen responsible for the white porcelain body. At 90 centimetres in height, it represents the maximum size that can be accommodated in the decoration kiln. To complete the painting, a specially designed support structure is required.

The result is an extraordinary work that combines historical inspiration, contemporary design and the highest standards of Meissen craftsmanship.
