Influenced by the study of botany, flower painting on the basis of naturalistic images has been an important element in Meissen's design repertoire since the 18th century. The manufactory's porcelain painters have drawn inspiration not only from nature, but also from artistic works of a range of eras. In this case, flower still lifes by Dutch Masters serve as the source of inspiration. Applied en détail with nimble brushstroke to each piece of the "i-Form" tea set, a composition of tulips here captures the flowers in their natural glory and delicate pink tones. The rounded shapes and radiant white lustre offer the porcelain painters a flawless, broad surface on which to bring their splendid paintings to life. Juxtaposed with the clear, architectural contours of the tea service, the historically inspired artwork takes on a modern feel while at the same time making room to integrate masterful artistry and craftsmanship into everyday life.
