The magnificent "Northumberland Service" from 1748 is one of the most visually striking in the manufactory's history. Each of the service's 129 pieces features a different animal, painted based on historic engravings. For the "Limited Masterworks 2019" reissue of this historic design, the painting is depicted on the broad white surfaces of a dish which was designed in the first half of the 18th century. The camel was selected as the pattern for the piece on the basis of original templates from the Meissen archive and, as in the original service, is surrounded by an intricate wreath of painted flowers. Both animal and flower painting are their own separate genres in porcelain decoration and are only carried out by specially trained painters. Gold-plated edges provide the painting with a distinguished frame.
