The present handled vase, which the Meissen Manufactory showed off at some of the great International Exhibitions of the 19th century draws on a blueprint produced by Leuteritz in 1863. Scenes from Antiquity after a work painted in 1883 by Eduard Julius Friedrich Bendemann served as the source material for this vase. Our porcelain painter Lidija Schrenk has now rendered the motifs in the precious Limoges style of painting. Layer after layer of white paint is applied to the glazed porcelain with the finest of brushwork over a high-fired blue ground. Differing degrees of translucency are achieved by varying the thickness of the layers applied.
