description
With the "Blossom Project," designer Lena Hensel draws on one of the most celebrated creations in the history of Meissen porcelain: the Snowball Blossoms developed by Johann Joachim Kaendler in the 18th century. At the same time, she translates the traditional art of assembling porcelain elements and applying sculptural ornamentation into a contemporary design language.
MEISSEN's unique strength lies in artisanal skills that have been preserved, passed down and continually revitalised over centuries. In this vase, cultural history, masterful craftsmanship and creative innovation come together to form an expressive work of art. The sculpturally modelled blossoms are arranged freely across the body of the vessel, entering into a lively dialogue with its silhouette. They do not merely follow the form, but transform its appearance and lend the vase a new, sculptural character. The subtly stippled pale-blue ground provides an understated backdrop for the elaborately handcrafted blossoms. Some retain the pure white of the porcelain, while others are selectively refined with precious gold. This sensitive interplay of matte porcelain white, soft blue and shimmering gold accents highlights each individual blossom and gives the object depth, rhythm and a distinctive luminosity.
The "Blossom Project" is therefore less a new collection than a new interpretation of a historic skill. The vase demonstrates that exceptional craftsmanship is not preserved through repetition alone, but by finding an individual and unmistakable response to a changing age.
