The wall panel "Still Life with Flowers and Wine" features an excerpt from a painting by the Dutch painter Jan van Huysum from 1722. Huysum, whose paintings were already in high demand during his lifetime, developed his own signature style within the genre that is characterised by fine, suggestive brushstrokes. The old master's brushwork, the interplay between light and shadow that bestow the image with a unique trompe l'oeil effect, can only be depicted through a combination of different painting techniques: in-glaze paint, which allows the image to develop a brilliant radiance, is used to create vivid accents, while the finer details are created layer by layer with on-glaze paints. This lends the historic motif its exceptional depth and photorealistic appearance. A painting that testifies to masterful artistry and skill.
